I really do not quite know what Razz is doing as she reviews, measures and muses over my body bits.
I refer of course to the ‘bits’ that were not working well or were locked up and causing pain. She has taught me the tiniest of movements which could be easily mentally dismissed. Thinking them unable to make a jot of difference after the serious levels I have needed to embrace over many years to just walk, let alone walk well and thrive.
But little by little ….. I have learnt to do “exactly as I am told”!
To grasp the bigger picture, a dislocation of my right hip was detected at 18 months old subsequently treated with a series of Frog Plaster Casts over the next 18 months. Then I was 3 and am now almost 70.
And the 67 years in between? The story goes that I dragged myself (and my cast) around by my arms. I don’t recall it really. However I can remember the nightmare of limping badly, falling over at school, being called names, the big rubber built up shoes at age 10 which were worse than limping and falling. Pending hip operations suggested by specialists never materialising because I was ’till growing.
Hand made built up shoes in my early 30’s for some years when I lived in Asia, with other issues presenting as I aged – headaches, migraines and imbalances.
By the time I was 45 I was regularly seeing Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and any specialist that offered possible miracles, always seeking more consistent relief to manage these physical difficulties.
All Culminating in a Full Foot Reconstruction at 58. I spent months in bed, partially immobile and on crutches for a year and then I was 59. Surely then life will be normal? Managing Life was better for sure but I was not completely fixed.
10 years later:
Razz’s HANDS OF KNOWLEDGE – such an apt description. I have come to fully trust the specific manual therapy she offers as she teaches me Safe and Precise Disciplined exercises which have taught me to manage myself more effectively.
